Collision is group of students that are called to encounter Jesus and are fully enthralled with Him. They gather regularly for fellowship and growth and are fueled out of the place of devotion to reaching the lost and broken hearts of their generation. There are four venues for this ministry to happen: Collision Café, SLAM, God Inquiry, and Missionary Teams.
Collision Café is a weekly outreach on Fridays. Many students, volunteers, and youth pastors invest themselves into this ministry regularly. The morning begins as follows: set-up, devotional, and prayer. After prayer, Collision Café opens and students flood past the red curtains. For the believing students, this is a place that provides opportunity to build deeper relationships with friends and their fellow student body so that, ultimately, they can have access into the hearts and declare the message of Jesus Christ. For the unbelieving student, this is a place to ask questions about God and receive real Love and Truth. Because Collision has been active for 3 years now at LHS, the café is larger than the other cafes. The atmosphere is, at times, very family-like and, at other times, very chaotic. Youth of all colors and categories come and go with their hot chocolate in hand; hungry tummies and hungry hearts.
SLAM is what we call our student leader meetings. SLAM is a place of focused fellowship and planning for Collision student leaders. These students are amazing. Something that is evident among them is their love for one another, which reveals to the world that they know the love the Father. This reminds me of the famous old hymn, “They will know we are Christians by our love, by our love…” They plan Collision Café morning devotionals and share about their personal experiences with people. These students also discuss more effective ways to minister to their generation. Student leaders plan every outreach and event throughout the year.
God Inquiry is a place for students to come and ask questions about God. It is a great place for growing Jesus-lovers and for those that are not yet sure what they believe. Believers and non-believers come for more knowledge about this great Mystery. During God Inquiry, smaller groups develop and talk about who God is. This year, the Lord is putting on our hearts to go deeper into KNOWING the Lord, rather than KNOWING ABOUT Him. We desire to see the youth encounter Jesus for who He is and experience relationship with Him. Students discover, learn, and grow together. They also invite their youth pastors or mentors to be present for support.
Missionary teams are the teams formed by the different social groups the students are involved with. We figure that instead of trying to penetrate a more vast and large group of people with the gospel, we should pursue sharing Jesus with those we already live life with from day to day. One example of this is the Cross Country missionary team. A few student leaders gathered with a heart for their Cross Country team. They are now being intentional about building relationships with their teammates and sharing with them what Jesus Christ has done for them. These young men are learning how to live out their passion for Jesus daily and they are changing lives while doing so. Another great part of being a part of a missionary team is that each missionary keeps the other accountable their mission, checking with their co-laborers and making sure they are staying encouraged to do the work of the ministry. These students are incredible to work with! So far, at LHS, the other examples of missionary teams are Marching Band and Theater.
